Vintage Baseball Cards Is Hard To Find
|
| Understanding vintage baseball cards can be a lucrative hobby with a little knowledge and a little know how. Everyone has heard stories about old baseball cards being very valuable. The record breaker card sold on auction to date is well over 1 million dollars. Now knowing the ins and outs of the baseball card hobby can help you stay on top or invest in your loved ones future. So what can you control to help your situation out. The biggest advice I can give anyone that is just starting to collect in the vintage market is pay attention and start gaining knowledge of this market. The vintage hobby baseball card market can be gratifying by finding outstanding deals that you can find with a keen eye. There are several great places you can look to find great deals. Unlike the modern baseball card market, you may have to dig a little deeper to find the big score. Patience in this market can be rewarding by just knowing the market enough to be dangerous. So how do you get dangerous? First you got to know what is vintage. Basically all baseball cards from the century of 1800's to 1970's is what the hobby considers vintage. All cards from 1980 to present is commonly known as modern baseball cards. Now just like any baseball cards in the market, one of the most important aspect of this era baseball cards is condition. The condition of vintage cards is huge and can be the difference from getting a poor condition 100 dollar card to a mint condition 5,000 dollar card for the same card. Drastic pricing difference happens in the vintage market which makes total sense. It can be hard to find mint condition cards in this market but not impossible in this day and age. Even some poor condition sets can go for tens of thousands of dollars in this market. Understanding condition can start you on your way to a great vintage baseball card collection. The next factor you need to try and gain knowledge on is the star players of these era's. You are looking at about 100 years of baseball cards so knowing this, you should realize that there are a lot of baseball players you may have never heard of. This one factor can be the difference with acquiring a huge money card worth thousands or just getting a 40 dollar card. I personally this past year purchased a high dollar star card mixed and hidden with other 20 dollar cards in a display case for cheap. When I looked at this one card, I knew it was made by Topps baseball card manufacturer, the decade of the fifties and also the player on the card was Willie Mays. I honestly did not know what the card was actually worth but I did know that it was a 1950's card and Willie Mays was one of the top players in this era. I expected this card to be worth around $200 dollars at least. Boy was I wrong. It was worth $1500. That was the best 14 dollars I ever spent. So learn the key players of any era can be worth it. Now finding these cards is not that easy. You have to search high and low. Most of these cards have been stashed away in someones attic and only come out during garage sales, moving sales or estate sales. This is a great way to get cards for dirt cheap because the person selling them can be naive to the pricing on this collectible. Another place to look is antique shops. You can really score at one of these. Although a lot of antique dealers have enough knowledge to price the later vintage cards like 1950 to 1970 cards, the older tobacco or even cracker jack cards require deeper knowledge for these cards. I personally bought a tobacco era baseball card for dirt cheap after I ran home and did a little research on this card. I then drove back to the antique store and bought the card for only $24 dollars. The card was worth $1500. There are many stories that you could share with other people if you can gain enough knowledge and be dangerous. Another great place I go to find deals are on auction sites. On these sites many sellers know nothing about the cards they list and they never list them correctly. I spend ours scouring listings and find sellers vintage card listings that are misspelled or written with the unknown cards listing. I have bought hundred dollar cards for .99 cents and shipping because the sellers did not how to list there item. Following my advice can help you grow your vintage baseball card collection. If you practice some of my techniques, you too can have a great collection and help out your loved ones later on in life. So keep and eye out and feed yourself some knowledge today.
