How To Deal With Baseball Cards Shop
Using a baseball cards shop to help build your collection can be a huge advantage if you know what you are doing and what questions to ask. Baseball card shop owners usually have been in involved in the business for a long time and usually have a passion and a vast knowledge in the baseball cards trade. How do you help yourself out in building your baseball cards collection while still keeping your dollars in your pocket? This is easier said than done.

First tip is before you even walk into a baseball card shop is you need to realize what kind of collector you are. Ask yourself this question. What do I collect in terms of baseball cards. Am I a rookie card collector? Am I a vintage card collector? I believe I am a insert card collector. I really am a set builder. Maybe you are a graded card collector. You also could be a certain player collector. I know people who are autograph card collectors. Are you a certain team cards collector? Maybe you are neither of the above. You might also be all of the above also.  In other words, know what you are before you even walk into any card shop. This alone will help you save on cash.

Now when you first walk into any card shop, you should be very nice to the person inside. This person is usually the owner of the baseball card establishment. Dealing with this person alone, you will need to strike up a conversation and at the same time try to build a simple relationship with him. Depending on what type of collector you are, he has the means and know how into helping you with your collection. So build a relationship with him because he will keep his eye open for that one card you are looking for. He does trades and deals with the general public on a daily basis and he can help you find hard to find cards you need. Remember this but also know this is just the beginning.

Now that you have established this relationship and you know what kind of collector you are, establish to the owner that you are looking for deals. You can start it with a subtle question to him. Where are your cheap cards or where are the cards that you have on sale? This establishes to the owner that, he will need to possibly give you some great deals to help you depart with your hard earned cash. This is a dance you need to play and play well in order to get something you want and get as much out of the store you want with paying as least as possible. Believe me, this little trick works almost all the time.

Now that you have set a psychological trap for the owner of the card shop, you should look over the store and ask him questions about the cards you find interesting. If you find a card you must have, always ask for a lower price you are willing to pay. You have already established you are looking for cheap cards earlier so the card shop owner will be willing to go lower on his cards just for asking. An example is you see a baseball card that books for $100 dollars. He has it marked for $75. I would look over the card and really critique the card with all its faults. If is just slightly not centered, I would blurt it out like I am talking to myself loud enough for him to hear my thoughts. If the color of the card seems to be a little less faded, I would blurt that out. Make a baseball cards shopprice point in your head like I would totally buy it for $50 but don't let him know it. Now it is your turn to become a pitcher and throw the pitch. Ask him this question, how low would you sell this card to me? Never ever give him the price you want to pay unless he throws a question back to you and says, how much you want to pay for it. During this dance, there may be some awkward silence, remember to say little and let the baseball card shop owner talk. Await the card shop owner response and make a decision. If you like it, close the deal. If you don't ask him if he would take your price. If both of you cannot come to a compromise, you can just leave.

Following this little subtle approach works in this market because most baseball card shops are usually manned by the owner during business hours. The baseball cards shop owners make deals everyday with people on the streets bringing them cards for them to buy so they can sell it in their card shop. They have lots of practice dealing with the public and lots of practice knowing how to get the best deals. This does not matter if you try to use my method. The worst that could happen is you walk out the door with your cash still in hand if you practice my method. Your baseball collection value will grow higher while you spend less for it than the other guys in the long run.
